Smelter Electrical Maintenance Superintendent

The purpose of this position is:

  • Under limited supervision, manages the a sectional Electrical Mtc Team for the downstream Smelter Division of the PTFI organization. Lead the implementation of asset management systems which includes management of the long-term maintenance strategies, long term planning, and supporting budget development and cost control reporting. Drives and leads change in continuous improvement efforts across the organization.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  1. Supervises, enhances, and monitors designated Maintenance and planning practices for the site, reporting to the Site Maintenance Manager of Smelter Operations
  2. Lead an Electrical Maintenance group in providing technical support and direction to the Mtc department within PTFIs new smelter. Ensures direct reports and departmental teams have clear and specific goals to support the downstream operation. Ensures appropriate knowledge and training programs for direct reports
  3. Ensures team is to provide proactive advice to the Operations and Mtc Teams in ensuring optimum daily operations of the facilities with both a short and long-term outlook
  4. Execute tactical and strategic goals, objectives, policies and procedures for the Mtc Group as it relates to successful operation of the Smelter facilities
  5. Apply personal expertise and knowledge while supporting Mtc and Planning processes, ensuring appropriate daily, short- and long-range planning and scheduling techniques are followed according to company EMS Standards.
  6. Support overall planning and maintenance forecasting activities. (Cost and equipment performance).
  7. Develop and nurture a transformative culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team along with a disciplined risk-based approach to change management, including representing the site on company sponsored teams, such as transformation office Agile Teams.
  8. Supervises or reviews, investigates, and develops appropriate recommendations to achieve or exceed downstream processing goals and objectives under a continuous improvement approach
  9. Performs other duties as required

During the detailed engineering, construction, operational readiness, commissioning phase of the project:

  1. Be intimately familiar with the concepts and detailed engineering of the new smelter, and precious metal processing facilities.
  2. Assist and support the project team in ensuring implementation of safety systems consistent to PTFIs and FCXs standardmost importantly the Fatal Risk Management (FRM/eFRM) system. Conduct frequent work observations and site inspections together with the project team. Assist the project team in conducting risk assessments and control implementations on new hazards that may emerge during the project.
  3. Support in the design of the organization chart of the Smelters Mtc Department.
  4. Identify and agree to the function of the Maintenance department with other stakeholders in the smelter team; build and grow an effective Maintenance team; ensure team members have clarity on their roles including expectations across the different role levels. Support with necessary training to enable them to provide services expected of them; coach and mentor team members to improve their effectiveness.
  5. Support and direct development of the CMMS system for both the Smelter facilities as it relates to operation and maintenance activities ensuring alignment with corporate standards and best practices
  6. Be a major contributor to the development of spares identification efforts, ensure adequate reviews are arranged and spare parts recommendations are received from the project groups. It is expected that the Maintenance department are responsible for the correct identification and forecasting of spare part needs
  7. Ensure development of PM and Maintenance schedules are completed prior to Mechanical completion of facilities
  8. Ensure identification and benchmarking of items requiring regular monitoring are completed prior to Mechanical Completion of project areas. Working with Commissioning groups ensure benchmarking of these areas are captured and recording within a historian system
  9. Support in creating a resource readiness plan for the commissioning and operations of the new smelter.
  10. Build a foundation of active collaboration with various technical resources and subject matter experts within the FCX organization, technical professional associations, and academia. Create management systems to encourage proactive collaboration with other smelting/refining facility within FCX and with PT Smelting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical, or related field and 7 years experience
  • Ten or more (10+) years of experience in area directly relevant to mining
  • Prior major project management and/or start-up experience

Knowledge; Skills & Abilities:

  • Skilled in supervising, evaluating, training and motivating employees
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid
  • conclusions
  • Proficient in planning, scheduling, execution and follow-up of maintenance practices at large Smelter or Mining facilities.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Word & Excel, SAP, EMS, and other business systems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Skilled in managing effective communication throughout all levels of the organization, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions

Preferred qualifications you would like the candidate to have but are not necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Advanced degree or certification(s)
  • Pyrometallurgical experience in a technical or leadership role
