BOPKRI berdiri sejak 18 Desember 1945 dengan tujuan mencerdaskan kehidupan bangsa Indonesia melalui usaha mendirikan sekolah jenjang Taman Kanak-Kanak (TK), Sekolah Dasar (SD), Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP), Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA), dan Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK). Hingga saat ini BOPKRI memiliki 61 sekolah yang tersebar di berbagai wilayah Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY). Sejumlah 61 sekolah berada pada jalur pendidikan formal (TK, SD, SMP, SMA dan SMK) dan 2 KB pada jalur pendidikan nonformal.
Kalyca was established in June 2012 under the Foundation BOPKRI Yogyakarta which was established since 1946. BOPKRI Foundation has a great gait since the early independence period of Indonesia, in establishing a good quality of Christian schools in Yogyakarta. Most of the school buildings used by the Dutch colonialsm in and then forwarded by the BOPKRI Foundation.
BOPKRI is distinctively religious schools which has three values virtue known as “ BOPKRI Values”, those are:
Love, in which the teachings of God’s love flourish and grow in the hearts of the students as the foundation behavior in their everyday life.
Integrity, built early so that the students later become humans who have high integrity and a strong personality in the work and practice of love
Sincere service, that early students can cultivate self-developed quality of humanity into a whole person who is willing to provide services, devote themselves to build a peaceful world and civilized humanity.
Kalyca with the principles of Montessori running on the rails of this virtue with great commitment to the implementation of the quality of educational services that could contribute to the intellectual life of the Indonesian people.
Kalyca School serve the children ages 18 months to 15 years by providing learning environment and using Montessori method of education. They are learning to live and to love. The people, the earth and even the universe are the parts of their life, to whom they contribute themselves and the means of building their identity.
Dr. Maria Montessori, the founder of the Montessori approach to education, was born in Italy in 1870. She was a physician and educator. Her philosophy of education, her writings on scientific pedagogy and especially her work she had dedicated to children and education during her life has bared her name for about a hundred years.
In the early 1900s in Italy and European countries Dr. Maria Montessori opened a new outlook of education through her approaches that consider and respect of the “Nature Of The Child”.
She began to write about her discoveries and train people to work with children in the ways she advocated. Dr. Maria Montessori traveled around the world to deliver lectures, and train school teachers about her method. She believed that this is the way to raise the world’s new generation who can make peace in the world.
Dr. Maria Montessori died in 1952 in Holland. The world admit and give her an international legacy of Montessori Schools and Training Centers and all following Montessori approach.
Montessori set up the learning environment as an effective way to educate the children consider with their nature and all aspects of development.
Based on the child’s characteristics and needs Dr. Maria Montessori divided children into stages of development that is called Planes of Development
In Montessori Method, adults or teachers can observe them individually about their developmental needs and then guide and facilitate them gently to use the learning environment provided to learn. Allowing children to work based on their own interests and freedom of choice, train them to extend their concentration on working in order to achieving his/her own masteries, and also build their independence.
