Sime Darby Plantation's History

Our history can be traced back to the 1800s, with the creation, evolution and subsequent merger of three separate companies – Sime Darby Berhad, Golden Hope Plantations Berhad and Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad in which became the Sime Darby Group.

The merger in 2007 established Sime Darby Plantation (SDP) as the plantation and agri-business arm of the Sime Darby Group, representing one of the five core Divisions of the Group.

For more than a decade, SDP has grown from strength to strength and evolved to not only become a fully integrated global plantation company but also the world’s largest oil palm plantation company (by planted area) and  the world’s largest producer of Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO).

With the demerger of the Sime Darby Group in 2017 and subsequent listing of SDP on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on 30 November 2017, SDP continues its journey today as an independent pure play entity.
