PT Merdeka Tsingshan Indonesia (MTI) is a subsidiary of PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk (MCG) which originated from a joint venture agreement between PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk and Eternal Tsingshan Group Limited for the Acid, Iron, Metal (AIM) Project, located at PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park in Morowali Regency.

Currently, MTI is in the construction phase which will build 4 factories and an employee camp area with a capacity of 2,000 people. With an estimated capital expenditure of US$387 million including contingencies, the AIM Project will generate attractive economic value, with a Net Present Value (NPV) of US$513 million at an 8% discount rate and an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 29.5%, an increase in NPV from the initial economics of the AIM project.

Significant acid demand growth is expected due to the addition of an HPAL plant, planned to be built in Indonesia. The AIM project started with earthworks in Q2 2021 and is now targeted to produce the first acid by the end of Q1 2023.
